Marijuana Policy Project Alert
October 28, 2009
Dear friends:
Today, the New Hampshire legislature came just shy of voting to override Gov. John Lynch (D)#39;s veto of the state#39;s proposed medical marijuana law. Two-thirds of the votes were needed. Although we cleared the House with 67.6% of the vote (240-115), it lost in the Senate, 14-10.
The bill had passed the legislature in June, by 232-108 in the House and 14-10 in the Senate. But on July 10, Gov. Lynch vetoed the bill, after refusing to meet with 15 patients and after failing to give …

Dear friends:
Following the enormous victory for medical marijuana patients and their caregivers on Monday, a strong MPP champion on Capitol Hill, Congressman Sam Farr (D-Calif.), plans to introduce an important bill in Congress next week.
While the new Department of Justice policy creates a de facto protection for patients and caregivers who are quot;in clear and unambiguous compliance with existing state laws providing for the medical use of marijuana, quot; the Farr bill — which MPP staff helped write years ago — will codify this protection in law.
It will also address another injustice: …

Dear friends,
We#39;re going into battle and we need your help. Congress has returned from August recess, and we#39;re gearing up for our push to dismantle the war on drugs. That#39;s why we need your help right now — can you help us raise $12,000 to end the war on drugs?
Polls show that a substantial majority of Americans in almost every state want to stop arresting people for possession of small amounts of marijuana for personal use. And a majority of voters in some states want to make …

Dear friends:
Do you think these ads are too hot for TV? New York City#39;s ABC, Fox, and CBS affiliates do — they#39;ve rejected them.

LEAP is growing quickly as more and more distinguished members of law enforcement join us to speak out about the harms caused by our current drug policies. Dear friends,
Urge the Obama administration to clarify its position on medical marijuana.
Email the president
Earlier this month, we told the Obama administration to stop sending mixed messages on medical marijuana. The drug czar has responded, but he still has his facts wrong. Let#39;s ask President Obama to set his drug czar straight on medical marijuana.
In a recent news interview, drug czar Gil Kerlikowske tried to amend his claim that quot;marijuana is dangerous and has no medicinal benefit,” saying that he was referring only to smoked marijuana.
That#39;s not good …
